  • 2023 Biggest Psychosocial Hazards

Workers who reported sometimes or often feeling burned out, were most frequently experiencing the psychosocial hazards of ‘lack of role clarity’ (95.3%), ‘poor change management’ (79%), and ‘inadequate reward and recognition’ (75.4%).

  • Uncomfortable Truth No.1

When it comes to workplace safety, care beats compliance.

Train leaders for compliance but seize the opportunity to enhance building a caring culture. When leaders prioritise team wellbeing, satisfaction, performance, and safety increase.

  • Uncomfortable Truth No. 2

The silent hazard - the employee experience gap.

Leaders aim to support team safety, but there's a big gap between what they offer and what team members face. To bridge this, leaders must communicate better, check in regularly, and promote psychological safety. Teams feeling safe to speak up are less likely to encounter psychosocial hazards, paving the way for a safer workplace.

  • Uncomfortable Truth No. 3

The simple ways busy leaders can show care.

When leaders authentically embrace CARE (Compassion, Appreciation, Responsibility, Emotional Wisdom), team engagement, performance, wellbeing, and safety thrive. By weaving CARE into existing team Routines, Rituals, Rules, and Role Modeling, leaders foster a culture of CARE seamlessly.

So what does creating a psychologically safe environment look like for leaders?

  • Imagine your team is like a garden, and the you are the gardener.

Instead of just telling the plants what to do, the gardener creates the perfect environment for them to grow. That's what leaders do now – they create the perfect environment for the team to work together and come up with awesome ideas.

  • But being a leader isn't just about saying nice things.

It's about doing nice things too, like making sure everyone feels appreciated, listened to, and supported. Even when things get tough, good leaders help everyone stay positive and keep trying their best.

  • So, if you were a leader, how would you make sure everyone in your team feels cared for and motivated?

Maybe you'd create fun team traditions, like pizza parties or high-five Fridays. Or maybe you'd make sure everyone gets a chance to share their ideas and be part of the decision-making. Whatever you do, just remember that being a leader isn't about being in charge – it's about taking care of your team like a superhero!

NSW legislation and ISO 45003 code, require workplaces to assess the frequency, impact of on wellbeing, and duration of the impact of any psychosocial hazards your people are experiencing.

The average workplace claim is currently estimated at $89,000.
